A favorite for generations, Sugar Snap Pea produces heavy yields of stringless, 3-in. pods that keep their rich color and crunch after cooking. They're also flavorful eaten raw on vegetable trays or in salads. If the pods get overripe, it's no problem. Just shell the green peas. The plants are easy to grow and dependably wilt and frost resistant. Because the vines grow 5-to-6 feet tall, a trellis or support is recommended. The vines keep producing over a long season. Stringless Sugar Snap peas have bright green pods with thick walls that average 8 to 10 centimeters long. The smooth, shiny pods are straight to slightly curved and encase a single row of plump green peas. The pods offer a firm, crisp texture that is crunchy and juicy. Within are 6 to 8 round, tender peas that offer a sweet, slightly nutty flavor. Stringless Sugar Snap pea pods, young vines, leaves and flowers or pea tendrils, are also edible.
