True to its name, the individual leaves of oakleaf lettuce are deeply lobed and shaped like the leaves of oak trees. While generally grown as a leaf lettuce and picked at baby-leaf stage, oakleaf lettuces can also be grown for full-size heads. This lettuce forms a medium to large loose-leaf rosette of deeply lobed, bright green leaves that resemble the leaves of oak trees. It has a shallow root system. The leaves are mild, sweet, and nutty, though, with age, some bitterness may be present. The rosette may grow to 12 inches in height. This lettuce is a good source of vitamins A, C, and K, and folate.
