The Black Spanish Round radish is a variety of winter radish known for its deep black skin and crisp, pure white flesh. It is one of the oldest radish varieties available, with a history traced back to Ancient Egypt and possibly originating from the region of today’s Syria. This radish is particularly valued for its spicy flavor, which becomes milder when cooked. It matures in about 65 days and is suitable for autumn planting, typically sown about two months before the first expected fall frost. The Black Spanish Round radish can be planted directly into fertile soil, about 1/2 inch deep and 1 inch apart, with seedlings thinned to 4-6 inches apart. It is cold-resistant and does not tolerate heat well, making it ideal for fall and winter planting. This radish can be stored for long periods in good storage conditions. The radish is approximately 4 inches in diameter and is often used to add spiciness to both raw and cooked dishes.
