Description

Broadleaf Batavian Endive is a variety of endive that resembles a lettuce head with its broad, curling leaves. It is also known as Escarole and is a healthy green that can be used in salads, soups, and stews. This endive has a slightly bitter flavor but is less bitter compared to curlier varieties. For the most tender and flavorful product, it is recommended to plant either early in the spring or late in the summer to avoid the hot season. This variety is cold-hardy and can tolerate some frost, which may even improve its flavor. It prefers to grow in cool weather and requires full sun, ideally 6 hours daily. In warmer conditions, it might do better in light shade.
